Trials (or temptations) are presented to the hearts like a reed mat being woven stick by stick. Any heart that absorbs them will have a black dot placed in it. And any heart that rejects them will have a white dot placed in it, until the heart becomes white like a smooth stone—unaffected by any trial as long as the heavens and the earth exist. The other (heart) becomes black and dusty, like an upside-down jug—it neither recognizes good nor rejects evil, except what aligns with its own desires."
